Did you know that you can effectively recycle many of the various plastic bags, bubble wrap, and shrink wrap materials you regularly consume?
Coming from Green Newton’s Tip of the Week, here’s more practical info on how to curb your once wasteful ways.
- Do not dispose of plastic materials in your recycling bins. Plastic bags and films are considered contaminants and gunk up the recycling facility assembly lines and also expose workers to risk of injury.
- Do collect specific materials for recycling such as plastic grocery bags, newspaper bags, product overwraps, Ziploc bags, dry cleaning bags, bread bags, etc. Here’s the full list of plastic items that can be recycled.
- Do drop off your plastic recycling at your local collection point, such as supermarkets like Wegmans Chestnut Hill, Star Market Newton, Roche Brothers Needham, and Whole Foods Brighton. Find your closest location here.
Hopefully this tip can help route more plastic waste to recycling facilities rather than ending up in landfills as is still common today.
